What Is the DASH Diet Plan?

The DASH Diet is an acronym that stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. Knowing that diet is a key to reducing blood pressure or hypertension, the DASH Diet is a healthy eating plan created by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to give a structured plan to naturally reduce blood pressure.

The DASH Diet plan is not vegetarian, but it encourages the consumption of whole grains, fish, poultry, vegetables, fruits and nuts while eliminating red meats, sodium and sugar. As a result, the foods on the DASH Diet meal plan are rich in potassium, calcium, magnesium, protein and fiber. The DASH Diet meal plan also discourages processed foods.

Can I get a Sample of the DASH Diet?

Yes, you can and it's totally FREE! The NIH published a 64-page guidebook called, “Your Guide to Lowering Your Blood Pressure with DASH”.

This manual includes DASH Diet meal plans and DASH Diet recipes. It also includes a list of related resources to help you eat right.
