Meet Mary Jane

If you read this page, you are probably curious to meet me.
My name is Mary Jane Humes. I am the creator and webmaster of this site.

In The Beginning…

For the time I was very young, I had an avid interest in wellness and nutrition. I grew up in a wonderful out-in-the–middle-of-nowhere home surrounded by older people. My mother was 39; my father 41 when I was born. The three of us, and five years later, my brother; all lived in an extended family situation with my grandparents. I loved them all so much. As I got older, I realized their human frailties, especially since they were all older, and wanted to keep them around and healthy for as long as possible. We were always interested in natural health; in fact, growing up the family doctor was a holistic, chiropractor!

My Education…

I graduated from high school and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. I despised nursing school! I was not a very good student. For one thing, I had a very dubious belief in drugs, thinking that herbal remedies and nutrition were a far better answer then masking the symptoms with pharmaceuticals.

Nursing was not a fit for me but then I went to college where I studied Biology and loved it! I choose Biology simply because I loved plants and animals. In December 2000, I graduated from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in Biology.

What I soon discovered was that I could not find a job where I could utilize what I learned in college without having to move far from home.

An opportunity to sell jewelry via home shows, i.e., the “party plan,” was offered to me so I signed up.

Jewelry Years…

It was fun at first. I was able to travel to various homes and meet many new people. The money was good, but I worked hard and was on the road a lot.

The downside was that I had to spend more money than I was able to make. I needed to go to trainings, buy supplies, buy gas for the car, buy catalogs, buy order forms and so on. Yes, all of that was a tax write-off but my credit card bills were piling up while my income was just letting me cover my expenses— barely.

Occasionally (And fortunately, this was not always the case), I would have situations where I would book a show with a hostess only to have them hang up on me when I would call back to confirm the date.

Once I had a hostess tell me that she had fifteen people coming to her jewelry show and that she had advanced orders only to find out after I traveled two hours to get to her house that she wasn't even at home!

Other common frustrations was that customers did not get their money to me. When they did not pay me, I could not get paid.

After ten years of being the "Jewelry Lady", I wanted to travel less, and be a home more while still making money. My husband wanted me home more and traveling less.

I also wanted to offer people more than expensive pretty baubles.

In October 2006, a friend introduced me to the world of Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) via a nutritional company.

The MLM Experience....

Now this was more to my liking. As you now know, I was very interested in helping people obtain and maintain wellness so what my friend had to say caught my attention. I finally felt that I could make money while giving people something of true value.

Now if you've ever been involved with a MLM company you will know that there is no structure.

You are expected to “Share, not sell” with everyone within three feet of you. You are to “Tell all of your friends and relatives” because, after all, everyone wants to feel good and the product this company offers is the “greatest opportunity” to do both— make money and make people feel good.

Again, I ended up spending too much money trying very hard to promote my product. I bought promotional materials, bought sales lead lists, had to buy the product on a monthly basis, set up meetings, etc.

Eventually, I got the idea to start an on-line health information and sales website. With a website people could come to the website, “hear” about my product and opportunity pitch, get informed and contact me to finalize the sale.

This was a great idea, however, I had no clue where to start. I knew nothing about blogging or building a website. All I could do was (like most people) surf the Net and write e-mail. I started looking into the prices of building a website. There was so much to consider.

I had to get the domain name, pay for the site (free sites do NOT do well with Search engines), pay per number of pages, and figure out how to do all of this on my own.

Or... I could pay an enormous fee to have someone build my MLM nutritional website. The thought of both the price and trusting someone else with MY site scared me.

Deep down I heard the timeless words of Benjamin Franklin:

“If you want something done right, do it yourself.”

While I was looking into website options, a trusted Internet marketer told me about Site Build It! (SBI). He said that it was a good product and came highly recommended so I paid the fee and plunged in.

Now if you are a MLM marketer, a SBI website will most likely put you far ahead of your competition who rely on their company's replicated site and posting the merits of their product on Facebook. SBI and network marketing are definitely a good match!

However, here's a word of caution: Make sure that your particular company will allow you to create your own website. If they don't, you have two options:1. Don't attempt to build a website to promote their products.

OR

2. Change companies and promote the new company's products.

When I first built my website, I happened to be with an MLM company that just recently changed their internet polices. The new restrictions would not allow me to mention their company or product, even in a generic sort of way, online. Through their legal department I was advised that I was violating company policy with what I had written.

I quickly severed my ties with them but kept my website that I had labored over for so long. However, the website had to go through some major changes. I knew about wellness and wellness supplements and decided to write about it. What happened next was quite good.

I was spending far less money than I even had before (Therefore, I was saving money!) and then I made a sale... And then, another one!

I took my knowledge about something, added some affiliate links and started to make some money. SBI has helped me to turn my passion into profit in the privacy of my own home without having to sell anyone anything and without having to talk to people.

My office attire is pajamas and bare feet. My office is my home. My website constantly engages 'warm leads' all throughout the world 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

If you have any questions for me, specifically about SBI and what you may be able to accomplish with it, feel free to use the form on my Contact Form. Thank you for listening to my story.

Warmly,
